Lion Pride in the Eagles Nest

The story of the game against the Rainier Eagles is not about the score, but how 28 6th grade football players showed heart, toughness, skill and class. Our players are expected to demonstrate those traits, however, it was an especially tough task for the 6th grade Lions on Saturday. Fairness and sportsmanship should be expected - and overseen by adults - at all youth sports events. However, due to factors out of our control, both were blatantly missing in our game at Rainier Valley Playfield. While the score of 14-6 was not in our favor, the way our players acted before, during, and after the game will have a more profound impact on their lives than numbers on a scoreboard. We could not be any more proud of our kids.

As far as our players' performance is concerned, quarterback J.G Goldsmith made several big pass plays to our receivers, including Caleb Kelley, Tyler Walsh and Carson Hamilton. Fullback T.J. Smith pounded the ball up the middle and our line showed improved run and pass blocking. Our defense forced six turnovers: three fumbles and three interceptions. Jalen Robinson-McClure picked off two passes and Kyle Schuman returned a third interception more than 20 yards to set up J.G's touchdown run. Carson Grisaffi, Li Lotovaivai and their defensive teammates made several big hits and while we did give up a lone TD, our D more than handled everything the Eagles attempted. It was our best defensive performance of the season.

Definitely the best game of the Year. All of the boys stepped up for the challenge and played 4 quarters of football. Each one should should be proud of their game on and off the field. I am.
