With the end of the season more than a month behind us, we have the chance to reflect on 2008.
We did not reach our overall goal of making the playoffs. However, I think we were much more of a team this year than we were in 2007 (which was more of a group of players than a team.) We added several new players including a few who made great contributions on the field. There were a few areas within the team which showed great improvement. There were some parts that did not meet our expectations, but also showed the potential for great accomplishment as a result of harder work and more dedication next season. We saw individual players improve in their second season of contact football, and more experienced players make even greater strides.
One a more important note, coaches and parents can be proud of how our players conducted themselves before, during, and after games. While it is one matter to be out-played by another team, it is never acceptable to be out-classed. And in that case, the 2008 6th grade Lions were undefeated.
During the off-season work continues for the coaches who will plan for next year and set our sights for a great 7th grade season. We hope to see every one back next summer.
